His first hit single - "The Remedy" (I Won't Worry) - was released in early April and has been hitting mainstream radio stations like crazy. People are calling in and requesting it constantly.
This southern California wanna-be from Mechanicsville, Virginia, went to college in New York and started studying ancient art and musical theatre. His name is Jason Mraz. .
Jason didn't start strumming on a guitar until later on in his life. He was about 18 years old when he picked up his first one. Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Michael Jackson are a few of the many musicians from around the world that influenced him tremendously. .
Since he moved out west to California, he has shared venues with artists such as Bob Dylan, Paula Cole, Jewel, and David Gray. Last year Jason set up a camp in Los Angeles and met up with percussionists Toca Rivera. They played weekly there. They still set up and play at the world famous Java Joe's in Ocean Beach.
I picked up the Jason Mraz cd, "Waiting For My Rocket To Come," about a week or so after it was released. I bought it under the, "Hot New Rising Stars," section at Wal-Mart. I listened to number three on the cd constantly, which was the one I had heard on the radio. I loved the cd! It was great! It had a lot of awesome melodic songs on it. The way I describe the music would be a blend of folk, jazz, reggae and hip hop. .
One thing everyone notices about Jason is that he loves to perform for his audiences. While on stage, he jokes and talks with the audience. He will also respond to the audiences" questions.
Jason Mraz accomplished his goal of his album with the help of producer John Alagia. He then landed a record deal with Elektra Records. "Everybody at the record company (Elektra) has been great, but once in awhile you're faced with having to make a decision you might not have to make playing in Java Joe's, if you know what I mean," said Jason.
