Whiskey rebellion

 

            There were great similarities and differences between both the Whiskey Rebellion and Gabriel's Rebellion. In effort to gain rights that were seen as vital, the rebels of both the Whiskey Rebellion and Gabriel's Rebellion were similar in wanting to gain liberty from a higher authority but overall the outcomes of each rebellion had its differences. .
             The similarity between Gabrielle's Rebellion and the Whiskey Rebellion were that in both rebellions they fought for one similar goal. They both wanted to gain a sense of freedom for themselves by staging a revolt against a higher authority where on one hand one rebellion was for freedom and equality and the other was to gain freedom from the government control. Gabrielle's Rebellion was a rebellion that consisted of mainly free slaves. The free slaves staged the rebellion that took place in Virginia in an effort to gain freedom and equality for themselves. In Virginia slaves had a sense of freedom because in Virginia they were able to let themselves to be hired out for help. So now you have slaves who are working outside the supervision of there owners making money.(p.48) Giving this taste of freedom only made slaves want to gain even more freedom and equality for themselves. The Whiskey Rebellion took place in western Pennsylvania and consisted of mainly poor white farmers who were afraid of losing everything they fought for during the American Revolution were going to be taken away from them by the new government. Farmer's didn't see the point of shaping a new government because they didn't see how this new government was going to benefit them.(p.179) Up until this point Farmer's had the luxury of developing trade with whom ever they wanted without interference from the government. They also enjoyed not having any excise taxes on any of there goods that they were producing such grain to make whiskey. This would all soon change when the government needed to fund money to help fight against the Indians wars people of western Pennsylvania were encountering.
