This article is about three high school varsity players, who were charged with sexually abusing younger teammates. The high school that the boys came from was Mepham High School from Bellmore, New York. The charges consisted of kidnapping, assault, unlawful restraint and false imprisonment. Two of the players and 16 years old and the third one are 17 years old. Prosecutors were not sure if this case should be transferred to and adult court. These attacks on the younger football players occurred at a football camp in Philadelphia. The incident came up because many parents were complaining to the school principal. The police were told that 13 and 14 year old boys were sodomized with broomsticks, pinecones, and golf balls. The schools principal, coaching staff, victims, and attackers were all issued subpoenas. The cast is still under investigation at this time. .
Analysis.
This article relates to sociology because the three boys who committed the crime were their own little social group. They make up social groups because they have things in common with football and with hazing. The boys got into a groupthink matter because the three of them conformed together and decided to hurt teammates of theirs. Not one of the three ever though maybe this isn't the right thing to do. The secondary group was the football team as a whole. They were a group of boys who got together to achieve a goal together. Their goal was to play football and have a good time doing it. Maybe this act that the boys committed was because it was tradition for their football team. Maybe when they were younger some teammate had hurt them in the same way. These three boys made up a triad, which is a group that consists of three social group members. .
