The Atomic Bomb was a bomb that funded illegally with taxpayer's money. It was supposed to protect the United States from harm when instead it was used to kill thousands of innocent women, children as well as men. During a meeting between Stalin, Churchill and Thurman it was discussed that the united states had come up with a new revolutionary weapon that would change national warfare forever. In a live talk to the United States Truman says, "The world will note that the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, a military base. That was because we wished in this first attack to avoid, insofar as possible, the killing of civilians. But that attack is only a warning of things to come. If Japan does not surrender, bombs will have to be dropped on her war industries and, unfortunately, thousands of civilian lives will be lost. I urge Japanese civilians to leave industrial cities immediately, and save themselves from destruction. (www.dannen.com/decision/index.html) Thurman was telling the world that he doesn't see any other way to solve these problems and the only way to get rid of communism was to just go to war. I don't think that this decision was thought through enough.
The atomic bombs were dropped I think to tantalize Stalin. It was just to show that we had something that the Russians didn't, like we are smarter then you because we came up with this first. Not only did we want to show this off but also we wanted to be feared and we wanted the Russians to be so afraid of us that they would not attack the United States. As for what they accomplished, I personally don't think that it accomplished anything. I think that we had something that we were just dying to try and unfortunately for Japan who killed some of our people with their attack on Pearl Harbor. Many people say that the United States knew that something was going to happen. I, being a very proud American would like to think that is not the case.
