Part A.
Luke's Gospel is said to be one of the beautiful books written in the New Testament. In a famous phrase Renan called Luke's Gospel "the most beautiful book in the world". Luke's Gospel is also one of the most important books of the New Testament it is a fact that Luke, the only Gentile writer of the New Testament wrote more of the New Testament than anyone else Therefore Luke contains a more detailed history of the life of Jesus, he has recorded events which no other gospel has recorded. .
The most obvious outstanding Characteristic of Luke's Gospel is the Universalism. Luke is the only gospel which traces the genealogy of Jesus back to Adam - Luke ch3V38 " Enosh was the son of Seth. Seth was the son of Adam. Adam was the Son of God." All four gospels Quote the passage from Isaiah ch40v3 as the foretelling of the herald of the messiah "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight" But Luke is the only one to continue with this quotation: ch3v4-6 "Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; and all the flesh shall see the salvation of God." Luke has continued this quotation to include the universal promise.
Luke records the great claim of Jesus ch19v10 "the son of man has come to seek and to save that which is lost" In Luke's Gospel Jesus is portrayed as the saviour for all men, he is a pictured with outstretch arms to hold the whole and a heart to love all men. The kingdom of heaven is not shut to Samaritans. Jesus refuses to destroy the Samaritan village which will not give him hospitality (ch9v51-56). And Luke alone tells the parable of the Good Samaritan (ch10v30-37).
