Amy Tan was born in Oakland, California. Her family lived in several communities in Northern California before settling in Santa Clara. Both of her parents were Chinese immigrants. .
In The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan tells the stories of three Chinese-American women and their daughters. The Joy Luck Club has four parts, each made of four chapters. The first and the last parts present the four mothers while and the second and third present their daughters' points of view. This book has eight different voices, these women of the Joy Luck Club, give the stories of their lives. All narrators focus on significant events, those stories in the Joy Luck Club are not just happy stories. Every story in the Joy Luck Club has its own mean to give the narrators some courage or sacrifice but in the end those narrators lose or found themselves or something else. This novel present and show how great and brave the Chinese-American mothers are. They left their own house to come to a new counter and build their new family. They have to adapt a culture and work very hard to overcome all the problems between mother and daughter and wife and husband. .
