Human Inequality

 

So a society with inequality is still a fair society. .
             In order to bring people successfully to their well-fit occupations, education plays an important role in Plato's argument. What Plato mentions in his theory of education is that, a selection process is involved. This system can ensure the quality of the individuals so that they can provide the best productivity in their positions, and also their willingness to be doing their assigned jobs. In fact, the policy is maintaining or even widening the inequality by giving appropriate education to those who can remain in the selection process. Human beings with different innate qualities are like sand with different sizes and education is a filter to place them into different layers according to ability. However, one thing is taught equally to everyone in the education system is self-control. This is obviously one of the most important elements for the utopia to maintain its harmony. .
             Many people are against Plato suggesting human beings should have equal rights. In Plato's utopia, people are not equal and are placed in different class. These people basically do not admit that human being are not born naturally equal. If we look at the definition of fairness again, we can find that a just society is supposed to be "fair" instead of "equal". Inequality, if viewed negatively, can mean treating but unreasonably. However, we can think of "inequality" in a positive way by relating to "variety". In fact, this is the original point of view from Plato about the Principle of Specialization.
             III. Utopia.
             From the viewpoint of fairness, that is, treating people in a way that is right or reasonable, the form of society suggested by Plato seems to be perfect. There is no conflict within the society and people can living peaceful by working hard in their own positions. Inequality becomes the basis of the mechanism of the society but does not destroy the harmony of this hierarchy.
