When people are working with a real-estate agent trying to find a home, they look for something that is going to fulfill family needs as well as making things enjoyable. After an ideal living vicinity is chosen, an interior designer is called in. What the designer does is getting to know the client and try to help arrange the inside of the house in a manner that is appealing to the eye. Not only does it have to be appealing, but also to express a person's identity. The main point is to make sure the interior will be a comfortable living environment for the client. After the interior has been fully decorated, a landscape designer is called into the picture. This type of designer deals with the art of arranging or modifying the features of a landscape for aesthetic or practical purposes. They should appreciate nature and enjoy working with their hands applying creativity and artistic talent to bring out a persons interior living environment to their yard. For developing a project, a designer must go through a series of steps in a certain order. Projects range from improving land affected by mineral extractions to the layouts of parks, gardens, and housing estates or building motorways. Landscape design combines science and elements of art to create a functional, comforting extension of indoor living to the outdoors by blending man's technology into natural surroundings.
In the course of landscape architecture's short history, designers and architects have changed the appearance of this country. An ethic for shaping our land emerged and has changed almost all of the countries pre-settlement landscapes. During the last decade of the eighteen hundreds, two major achievements projected the profession of landscape architecture in to an era that would eventually change the face of the earth. In 1899, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) was founded. The following year the first formal instruction of this subject began at Harvard.
