DivX and Movie Piracy

Downloading movies has become so common these days that stopping people from doing it is almost impossible. Personally I've never downloaded any movies off the Internet but my brother and almost all my friends have and thanks to them I get to watch any movie that I want whenever I want. Almost everybody has access to the Internet, especially high -speed Internet (DSL or cable modems) and that's why downloading movies has become easier than ever. A few years ago an entire movie took up at least two CDs and the quality wasn't that great, but with the invention of video compression formats, it's possible to fit an entire movie on one CD with near-TV quality. With lower quality it's possible to fit two or more movies on one CD. The most common video compression technique is done by DivX and that includes the best video quality.
DivX is a name of a piece of video encoding and decoding software based on the MPEG-4 compression format, created by DivXNetworks, Inc. MPEG is a new standard of video compression that is both high-quality and low bit-rate. DivX DVDs are usually a fraction (around 15%) of the size of a standard DVD; even at 640x480 resolution, they"re the best home video format in terms of the space that they take. They only take half the time to concede and yet at the same time are smaller in size than MPEG-1 due to their incredible compression technology.
DivX is a global phenomenon. Over 30 million people across the world have downloaded and used DivX technology since its launch and we watch hundreds of thousands of DivX videos on the Internet every day. DivX is quickly becoming the format of choice for digital video professionals and amateurs who want to distribute their videos with premium visual quality at small file sizes, earning DivX the popular moniker "The MP3 of Video.".
DivX is the affordable alternative to DVD and it provides affordability through rental and sell-through prices competitive with VHS tapes.
