A Composition on Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte, was a book that tells the story of a woman's journey through her early life. It described how she found true happiness. Jane Eyre investigated many different types of people. Each character was unique in their own way and helped to shape Jane throughout her life. After closely examining each character, I decided that Jane was my favorite. I admired her for her determination and restlessness that eventually helped her achieve contentment. Her determination was a vital point in her character because it kept her working for a peaceful state of mind while living on earth. Her restlessness also showed that she would continue to strive for something better in her life as long as she felt she was not perfectly happy. I also made another decision based on the characters' personalities. I decided that Mrs. Sarah Reed, Jane's aunt, was my least favorite character because of her unpleasant personality and also because of the way she treated Jane. Mrs. Reed held a grudge against Jane when she was a little girl and also when she grew up, even though Jane was willing to forgive her for her heartless ways. Finally, I decided on which character I would like to have as a friend. I picked Bessie Lee because of her compassionate feelings toward Jane. When Jane was a young girl, Bessie did not like punishing her. To console Jane after she had scolded her, she sang songs to her and created stories for her amusement. This showed that Bessie was a playful, kind person, qualities that are definitely necessary for a friend. When Jane grew up and became a teacher at Lowood School, Bessie came to visit her. She complimented Jane on her achievements and talked to her as if she were a lady, like herself. These actions symbolized true kindness and acceptance, also necessities for a good friend. Although each discussed character was different, they provided a strong foundation for the story.
