The Soviet Union is now a strong and economically powered country and most people believe this is thanks to a person by the name of Dzhugashvili (Stalin - man of steel. Stalin was born in 1879 and began his reign over the Soviet Union in 1928 and it ended with his death in 1953. Stalin got his power form a means of being the most powerful of the enrolled leaders in the vote to be leader and through doing away with his opponents. Stalin's goals were to industrialize the Soviet Union at a rapid rate so that they would catch up with all the other countries such as the United States of America. At the beginning of his reign, he rebuilt all of the factories that were destroyed during the civil war, which took place from 1918 to 1921 and this was an introduction on how he planned to rule the country. Therefore, the question may be asked, "was Stalin an economic genius or a brutal murderer?" Most people believe that Stalin was an economic genius. The reasons being for their thoughts about him are, all of the promises he fulfilled to the country and the goals he planned to achieve. An example of such is the way he introduced his reign by rebuilding the factories that were destroyed during the civil war and the rest of his economically ingenious plans shall be revealed later in the paper. Stalin used a variety of ways to industrialize the Soviet Union and a few of them are "5 year plans," propaganda and economic growth. He used these to benefit his country and people in the long run or you could say short run because the time he industrialized was double the speed of the other countries. Stalin is an economic genius and it can be proven with no problem what so ever.
The first of Stalin's great contributions to the country was economic growth and as a result of this economic growth, the standard of living had increased a great deal. Stalin had educated the population to a point when only 15% of the people could not read and write and thus meaning 85% could and this was a great contribution towards economic growth because with more people being able to read and write there was more options open for jobs and more machinery could be used.
