To create teams with a well-defined goal . The more clear the goal, the easier it is to come up with the objectives to accomplish it.
2. Type of Team.
One that is willing to get the job done. There are all types of teams out there ranging from firefighters to basketball teams, but those types of teams don't exist in the business world. The type that is needed is a team that follows their own orders and makes up their own rules.
3. Manager-led or self-managed.
There are many differences in manager-led verses self-managed teams. Self managed teams are the future of business because they are more flexible and cohesive than manager led teams. The exchange of ideas with in a self-managed team is more apparent in learning teams.
4. What skills are needed?.
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the team is the composition of its critical competencies. Subject matter experts are necessary in order to facilitate viable or probable solutions. The leader must ensure that they have the correct skill mix to identify all variables of the solution such as the law, existing regulations, or technical knowledge.
5. Member selection.
Depending on the skill mix required, the leader must select team members based on their technical competency from analytical thinkers, computer experts, to policy makers and organizational experts. Having a mix of leaders and self motivators is critical to the composition.
6. Necessary resources.
Members must make a time commitment to the team that ensures they will participate at the scheduled times and dates. Independent time for research and assignments must also be considered. Management must support the team in automation requirements, travel (if necessary) and of course, time to complete the assignment.
.
7. Boundaries.
Limits to the scope of the team's assignment must come from management. Management must define the deadline; travel allocations, funding, etc. The team can make recommendations to management to increase their scope of the project, but management will have the final decision.
