The goal of Bosch-Siemens Hausgerate GmbH was simple, to dramatically reduce the amount of pollution and waste that various household electronics produced. The BSHG approach was to construct the various products out of recyclable goods and providing a means to recycle the product after the consumer has worn out the product.
BSHG has invented a new approach to help reduce pollution from their products. The way that BSHG has implemented their environmental protection policy is that they decided to deal with all aspects of the production process to the recycling of the product:.
Design: The design of the product is the basis for minimizing pollution and making their products recyclable. BSHG decided to start here since in this stage you can decide what materials go into making the product and you can choose materials that are safer for the environment.
Production: During the production process the residual materials are sorted and are sent to a recycling center. BSHG also uses equipment that reduce the amount of energy that they use.
Packaging: BSHG tried to be environmentally safe by using environmentally friendly packaging materials that do not use polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Their goal is to reduce the number of materials used in packaging and uses primarily packaging products made from recycled paper.
Product Returns: When BSHG repairs a product that has been returned, the parts that have been removed from the product are recycled and high-grade parts are reconditioned. They also implemented a program to buy back old products from distributors in order to support recycling. BSHG tries to disassemble each product that they receive and try to recycle every single part of the product before actually disposing of it. Parts that they cannot recycle themselves are sent to an independent recycler so that they can dispose of the parts.
Transportation: An often overlooked part of being environmentally friendly, transportation of products can damage the Earth.
