The mastery of stem cells can lead to practical, affordable ways to eliminate many genetic diseases through DNA engineering, thus extending the human life span (Yount 40). .
             All of this new knowledge sounds exiting, but what are some of the negative effects to this new development in biological discovery? Well, to carry out this research can cost scientist a large amount of money. Also, stem cells can be difficult to find because of the legal aspects. Once the scientist have the stem cells and are researching on them we don't know exactly what the outcome is going to be. It may lead to cloning, which people are deathly afraid of. Another problem is once they are done gathering all of this information and discoveries with the stem cells, whom are they going to test this new knowledge on? All of these things are to be questioned and considered when dealing with stem cell research.
             Religious people are taking all of the negative effects into consideration in proving their point that stem cell research is immoral and wrong. Stem cells also come from vitro fertilization, which happens in a petri dish, to create embryos from which stem cells are extracted. Many religious people remonstrate that they are creating a life and deliberately preventing it from reaching its full potential. Also these cells come from fetuses of women who have had abortions. They view the government as treating living organisms as research material as a mere means for benefits to others. A representative from the Catholic church speaks out and says:.
             While much good may come from the proposed research, we must not lose sight of the fact that the means used to reach that good end must also be moral.
