The redcoats reached Lexington, a town not far from Concord. Awaiting their arrival of the redcoats were the minutemen. There were about 70 minutemen. A huge difference in the number of men compared to the British. The British ordered the men to go home and knowing they were greatly outnumbered they went home. While they were headed back home a shot rang through the cool April morning air. Immediately a battle begun, bullets flew through the air hitting only one British solider that was wounded, but the British hit eight minutemen and killed them. After defeating the minutemen at Lexington the redcoats headed to Concord. They searched the city for firearms, but found none. Finding the city free from firearms the British headed back to Boston. On a bridge just outside of Concord, some 300 minutemen who were all ready to fight met the redcoats. Fighting broke out again but this time the redcoats were the ones being forced back. Soon they retreated but as they drew away from the battle the minutemen were prepared. They had set up sharpshooters out in the forest and fields where they easily killed the British. Also local women fired at the British from their windows. By the time the redcoats had reached Boston 73 men lost their lives and another 200 soldiers were either missing or wounded. .
Even today this is a battle people hear or read about. It will stay on our history till the end of this country. It is an important day and date. I will always remember what the men and women had to go through for me. .
