I have read the book "A kiss before dying" written by Ira Levin and this is the first book I have read by the author.
The book is divided into three parts. In the beginning of the first one there are two main characters ,Dorothy Kingship and Bud Corliss. She have told him that she is pregnant but Bud's reaction isn't what she thought it would be. He tells her that they can't afford to have a baby at the moment because they are both studying at the Stoddard's University but the main reason is that it would ruin his chance to get money from the company "Kingship Copper". He convinces her to take abortion pills but the day after she tells him that they didn't work. .
Bud starts looking for a good way of killing Dorothy. He manages to get some arsenic from the pharmacy and makes a few capsules containing the lethal poison. Dorothy decides to not take the new pills because she wanted to get married but she tells Bud that she had taken them and this confuses him. He convinces her to follow him up on a roof and when she look over the edge he pushes her over and the fall kills her. Everybody thinks it was a suicide besides Dorothy's older sister Ellen that think it was murder. .
The second part of the book is about Ellen and her struggle with solving her sisters death.
Ellen thinks that someone that knew her sister very well may be the one who killed her. .
It was known to Ellen that Dorothy liked a guy in her class and she had told her that he was blond and looked gentle. Ellen travels to the university that her sister used to go in and she finds out that there were two males that could fit in to Dorothy's description. Later on Ellen .
confronts one of the males, Dwight Powell but he tells her that he isn't the one Ellen is looking for but that it was another guy who was dating Dorothy at the time he was studying at the university. What Ellen don't know is that her boyfriend is actually Bud, the person who killed Dorothy.
