Cloning

 

            Cloning human embryos is a necessary and is a positive technology. Therapeutic cloning will give tomorrow's patient quality of life. Save hospitals and governments billions of dollars and create more spare beds for other sick people. Abolished organ waiting lists will generate a greater survival rate for patients requiring transplants. Relieve pain and stress for patients and their families. Therapeutic cloning will benefit humankind in many ways. .
             Scientists should use methods of cloning of individual human cells because it provides benefits of curing diseases and regrowth of damaged organs or tissues. However, scientists should not clone whole adult human beings because of the violation of moral, ethical, and religious concerns. Hence, scientists must separate making spare body parts from making whole people. Therapeutic cloning is a procedure, which an ovum is removed and replaced with the DNA from a cell removed from a patient. Then the ovum is fertilized by a jolt of electricity, and is now called a pre-embryo with the intent of producing tissue or a whole organ for transplant back into the person who supplied the DNA. The pre-embryo dies in the process (Utton 2004:32 News Paper). The goal of therapeutic cloning is to produce a healthy copy of a sick person's tissue or organ for transplant. .
             This technique would be vastly superior to relying on organ transplants from other people, as the tissue match is identical so rejection is not an issue (Utton 2004:32 News Paper). The supply could be unlimited, so there would be no waiting lists. At present there are more potential recipients for transplanted organs than the available supply (Stolar 2002:Internet). The tissue or organ would have the sick person's original DNA and the patient would not have to take drugs like immunosuppressants for the rest of their life as is now required after transplants, there would not be any danger of organ rejection.
