Sorrowful woman

Bartleby the Scrivener & A Sorrowful Woman.
In this paper, I'm using the short stories of Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville and A Sorrowful Woman by Gail Godwin. In both of these short stories, Bartleby in Bartleby the Scrivener and the protagonist in A Sorrowful Woman choose to withdraw from life. They both want nothing to do with anyone anymore. They eventually choose the road of death.
In the story of A Sorrowful Woman, there are three main characters. One is a husband, a wife and their son. The wife cannot even look at her son let alone talk to him because she doesn't like him. He is always bothering her. I think it is because he wants some attention from his mother just like every child. The wife can't do anything around the house. The husband has to do the laundry, make the food, put their son to bed and read him a bed time story, ect. Every night the husband was to make her a glass of cognac followed by a big glass of dark liquid to make her fall asleep easier. One day, the wife gets so sick of her son that she locked herself in her room. She eventually stays in that room and doesn't come out. She and her husband write notes to each other to keep in touch. The wife had a job to do and she was running out of time. One day the husband and son came home and found five loaves of warm bread, a roasted stuffed turkey, a glazed ham, three pies with different fillings, eight molds of the boys favorite custard, two weeks supply of fresh-laundered sheets and shirts and towels, two hand-knitted sweaters of the same color, a sheath of watercolor beasts accompanied by mad and fanciful stories nobody could ever make up again, and a tablet full of love sonnets addressed to the man. (Quoted from the book). After they see all of this the husband and the boy run up to her room to thank her. Unfortunately, they find her lying motionless in her bed. She has passed away. .
In the story of Bartleby the Scrivener, Bartleby is an elderly man who was a scrivener.
