Behrens and Rosen also explain, if the author isn't guilty of oversimplification, then it's a good persuasive paper (Behrens and Rosen, 53). For Kelley's article I will explain secondly, why I think she is guilty of oversimplifying her information. .
Behrens and Rosen explain that in articles that inform, the reader must identify the significance and whether or not the information is of importance to them, or particularly someone else (Behrens and Rosen, 46). Kelley's article made a difference to me, because when I watch a love story (movie), from now on I will probably be thinking, "does this relate to fairy tales in any way?" .
In my opinion, the reader should gain much information from an informative article like Kelley's, "Pretty Woman: A Modern Cinderella". Kelley's article contains useful, significant information. To me, useful, significant information is an aspect in which Kelley explains how the male sex is ranked higher in fairy tales, "In both Cinderella and Pretty Woman, the male sex is ranked higher in wealth, occupation, and status than the female sex" (Behrens and Rosen, 650). How many people would actually be thinking this while watching either of these films? However, I myself, am only worried about whether or not the woman is going to end up with the handsome prince when I watch a fairy tale or love story. Half the time, I"m not worried about the prince, or male aspect of the story. .
Kelley's article is all the more significant because she explains points I would've never thought about myself. Ruth Bottigheimer, the author of Grimm's Bad Girls and Bold Boys, explains how fairy tales affect women, "Fairy tales are not beneficial to women" (Behrens and Rosen, 649). This aspect would have never crossed my mind while watching either of these movies. When I was young, I remember watching Walt Disney's Cinderella over and over again. The movie never got boring to me. It seemed to spark the same excitement each time because, I just loved the thought of getting a beautiful dress, having a fairy godmother, going to a magical ball, and marrying a charming prince.
