Necrotizing Fasciitis: The Flesh Eating Bacteria

With the lack of recording no one is sure of the actual amount of cases in the world except that there is increasesd incidents in Asian and African countries(Necrotizing fasciitis 24 April). Even under world best care practices today, necrotizing fasciitis has a mortality rate of around 20%. Mortality is nearly 100% if not properly treated. Correct diagnosis and early treatment of this disease is therefore of paramount importance (Necrotizing Fasciitis, Par. 4). The average age of survivors is 35, and the average age of non-survivors is 49. It affects two and a half males to one woman and the average patient with the disease is 38-44.              When someone recovers or survives necrotizing fasciitis they are almost lways scarred and need skin grafting to repair lost skin or tissue. Necortizing fasciitis spreads so rapidly if it is not caught and cured in days death is almost imminent. Many people are badly scarred, injured, or die because of misdiagonosis; the symptoms of necrotizing fasciitis can be identified with so many other viral and bacterial disease or infection symptoms it's hard to diagnose properly in time. Vance Bo Salisbury was an extremely lucky survivor of necrotizing fasciitis; he had the Streptococci strain is which is faster and more potent. His case began when he was playing indoor soccer at his local church; he was kicked in the left ankle. The following day he was acting as normal when he started to suffer from severe pain in his ankle. He went to the emergency room with his wife and radiologist friend who recommended a x-ray which was performed; the injury was shrugged off. He was given pain killers and sent home. The following morning he was in terrible pain; the emergency room nurse told his wife to double the dosage which she did. That afternoon the pain was unbearable and he was rushed to the emergency room again.
