Aileen Carol Wuornos

The middle-aged owner of a Clearwater, Florida electronics repair business, Richard Mallory, was known to close up shop abruptly and disappear for a few days at a time on drinking and sex binges. When he didn't show up to open his shop in early December 1989, no one thought much of it. There was no one close enough to him to notice he was gone. It wasn't until his Cadillac was found a few days later outside Daytona that anyone knew anything was amiss. Six more bodies would be found by travelers and police. David Spears, Charles Carskaddon, Peter Siems, Troy Burress, Dick Humphreys and Walter Antonio would all be found with in the next year, all with .22 cal rounds as the cause of death.
In Port Orange, near Daytona, police there had been tracking the movements of Lee Blahovec and Tyria Moore. They had stayed at a Fairview motel in Harbor Oaks under the name of Cammie Marsh Greene. Police discovered that Greene had pawned a camera and a radar detector, and had left the requisite thumbprint on the receipt. These items had belonged to Richard Mallory. In Ormand Beach, she pawned a set of tools that matched the description of those taken from David Spears's truck. National Crime Information Center analyzed the prints and found that Lori Grody, Susan Blahovec and Cammie Marsh Greene were all aliases for Aileen Carol Wuornos. Police tracked Wournos down at a bar called The Last Resort and was arrested for an outstanding warrant under the name of Lori Grody.
The police had also found Tyria Moore living with her sister in Pennsylvania. They transported her down to Florida in an attempt to confess. After three days of Moore talking to Wournos, Wournos decided that she would confess. Wournos was sympathetic to Moore and didn't want her to go down with her. So on January 16, 1991 she did. She made clear in her confession that Moore was innocent and that all the killings were out of self-defense.
