Analyze why Daisy is so important to Gatsby

 

             Daisy loved Gatsby, but wouldn't marry him because he didn't have any money. While Gatsby was away at war Daisy met Tom Buchanan. Daisy found someone to love that had a great amount of money. Gatsby truly loved Daisy and would do anything to get back together with Daisy. Gatsby strived to become rich in order to win Daisy back. When Gatsby and Daisy reunited years later, Gatsby had accumulated enormous wealth and power. Daisy thought about leaving Tom until she found out that Gatsby used illegal methods to earn money.
             To Gatsby Daisy represents hope. Gatsby hopes that Daisy will leave Tom. Daisy also reminds Gatsby of youth because they met when they were young. Gatsby is obsessed with Daisy. Gatsby even collects all the newspaper articles about Daisy's life and even moves to West Egg to live across the bay form the green light at the end of Daisy's dock. Gatsby throws extravagant parties in hopes that Daisy will show up at one. .
             Gatsby is obsessed with Daisy because he remembers the Daisy of the past. Gatsby lives for the future and the way things might turn out, never really living in the present. Gatsby ends up living in the future permanently. Gatsby was never happy or satisfied. Gatsby always tried to reach for Daisy, but never seemed to reach her because Gatsby lived in a dream life not reality. .
             For Gatsby, the green light symbolized a great vision, Daisy's heart belonging to him. Gatsby envisioned Daisy up on a pedestal of perfection, never doing any wrong. In fact Daisy did many things wrong all the time. Daisy ran over Myrtle and didn't even stop, and cheated on Tom with Gatsby. Daisy thought that Gatsby and she could end up together, but soon realized that the relationship wouldn't work so Daisy went back to Tom as if nothing had happened. .
             Gatsby thought the world of Daisy, after all Daisy was the one and only love of Gatsby's life. Gatsby continued to love Daisy even after she married another man.
