Identify the Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) at Permalco as related to recruiting production leaders.
Response.
Strengths are that the company is already established and that it has forecasted growth expressed in the need to hire new people. Another one would be different fields that offer new entrants work positions that match their strength. Weaknesses are the lack of organization and implementation strategies to be able to shift labor in a way that would maximize labor output through employees being happy at their job. Also, by laying off 30% of the workforce and some time later needing more labor, one can conclude that their HR department is making the wrong decisions. Also, they are asking employees that are non motivated to motivate the best candidates into working with Permalco. .
Opportunities are the amount of unemployment of qualified employees and the outlook of growth. There are several people that are willing to work, driving the cost of labor down. Also the company has prospects to grow meaning that it has the opportunity to increase its presence in the industry. Threats come from competitors and a labor force not willing to work given the labor situation at Permalco. It appears that the business environment is tough to work in given that they lay off 30% of their workforce. Because they want to hire women and minorities, this could bring about the legal issue of reverse discrimination into the picture, that in case would happen, could mean a loss of reputation and legal fees.
What information must the team gather before it can formulate a recruiting strategy?.
The group must need what the position that are going to be open entail. After they have this information they should resort to the old methodology that Permalco already have so that they don't have to start from scratch. Having the old strategy they can see what it lacks so that they can complement it (they all got hired with that system, so it works on some levels).
