This year the girls basketball team is not doing as well as some may have hoped. They have played six games and two scrimmages. The girls were defeated in all six games and won only one scrimmage. So that leaves there record at 0-6 because scrimmages do not count for their record. Their next game is on the thirteenth against Oklahoma. It is going to be at home, right here in Nacogdoches at 2:00. It is going to be a hard game and the odds are not in our favor. .
The lady jacks are expected to do well in conference play. They are picked to win the conference. Stephen F. Austin has eleven teams against them in the conference. We will play all of them. Some of the teams , we will play twice. SFA has a really hard schedule this year. Last year we had the third-toughest non-conference schedule in the league. Last year we were the runner up in the conference. Historically we are 249-25 in the conference (which is over .900).
The coach of the SFA lady jack basketball team is Lee Ann Riley. This is her third season at SFA. She has had eleven seasons as head coach or assistant head coach and has not had any losing seasons. In 2001-02 season, Coach Riley guided the team to the 2002 south land conference regular-season and tournament championship. Coach Riley made the Lady Jacks go 24-6 on the way to the conference title, advancing to their 15th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and their 17th NCAA appearance in school history. It was our 24th twenty win season in school history. It was the year Loya Mills was named the league's freshmen of the year. Kirby Killingsworth was among the league leaders in three-point field-goal percentage and led the team in scoring. Kirby recorded the third-best season in school history with her fifty three-pointers. Kirby also recorded the ninth best season for three-point field-goal percentage in school history.
#2, Alex Bowman, is a junior out of Kilgore college.
