The Crucible by Arthur Miller should have been resolved in a different way. The characters in the play could have changed the whole outcome of the witch trials and could have saved a lot of peoples lives. Abigail, Reverend Parris, and the Judges could have all saved many lives throughout the story if they hadn't done what they did. The outcome of the story could have been changed drastically.
One of the people that could have changed the outcome of the story was Abigail. Abigail lied when she was talking to Reverend Hale. She said, "She (Tituba) makes me drink blood (43)." This was not true because Abigail was actually drinking the blood and doing other things as voodoo. That one lie set the whole bit in motion. Soon after that, Tituba was making up things to get Reverend Hale off her back. This is related to a quote of Robert Coles which stated, "Once the devil obtains power he bewitches many (oh so many)." Abigail was truly a devilish person and was cruel. Another time that she could have just gave up and turned herself in was when Mary Warren came forward to the judge saying that this was all "pretense" or pretend. Abigail did not have to make it as though Mary Warren was the one possessed by the devil by fainting and becoming very cold like death. Abigail was the head of the group of children and if she would have been stopped, the whole ordeal would have ended with very few deaths.
Reverend Parris was also a person that could have changed the out come of the play. The second that he called on Reverend Hale (9), he was asking for trouble. When Reverend Hale got to the town, he was only doing his job to take all of the girls and to suspect them to being witches. If Parris had not called for help in the matter, then the town would have tried to forget the whole matter. The fact that the whole town found out about it in literally a day was quite confounding. Although, I have found out recently that it doesn't take long for everyone to know a rumor.
