Tigers are held in place with rope and a great fighter await Maximus in the great Colosseum of Rome. Maximus of course not only kills the opponent, but some tigers as well. His plan for troops unfortunately fails, and he is locked up. .
The Emperor has decided to kill Maximus with his own hands in a match. But before the game, Commodus cheats and stabs Maximus in the back, making him weaker for the fight. No one ever knows this because it is covered by armor. The Emperor meets Maximus in the arena, Maximus fights bravely and it is a close fight. In the end, Maximus wins the battle and stabs the Emperor sending him to death. .
Maximus very weak now, orders the troops to be freed, and the empire handed over to the Roman Senate. He then also dies on the arena ground along side Commodus. His ultimate goal was achieved, the empire was as it was supposed to be, and he was now finally back home with his family.
I really enjoyed this movie. I never thought of watching it because to be honest I did not really know what a gladiator was. I wasn't aware of how a person became a gladiator and why they would ever want to.
