The behaviour of the Swing Kids in the film "Swing Kids" is not very historically accurate in its portrayal of Swing Kids and other elements of Nazi Youth. While some characteristics of the Swing Kids were shown well in the movie such as the music they liked to listen to and the provocative dancing they conducted, the real Swing Kids were said to be extremely sleazy, sometimes rude and quite anti-political. Real Swing Kids supposedly took-part in constant street skirmishes with the Hitler Youth, smoked and drank heavily and experimented in devious sexual acts, none of which were shown in the movie in a great detail. The movie was deliberately altered to make it more appealing and sanitized, and was therefore not very historically accurate in its portrayal of Swing Kids and other elements of Nazi youth.

By day these Swing Kids would take part in the Hitler Youth activities and at night would revert to their swing lifestyle. Other Swing Kids openly rebelled against the Nazis, flaunting their way of life in public and instigating skirmishes with the Nazi Youth. These resentful and hateful attitudes were shown in the film by Peter and his friend being a part of the Nazi Youth but still taking part in their Swinging past time, and Arvid always bad mouthing the Nazis and openly rebelling against them.
