Analysis of reba

In the show "Reba" it displays different roles that gender plays in the media culture. The show goes against the norm in various ways. Reba the main character defies the traditional role played in most sitcoms. Instead of being the traditional well to do stay at home mom she is a divorced mother who has to raise her kids and work. There aren't any other shows that have a divorced mother who has to take care of her kids and one of her daughters Cheyanne, and her husband Van have kids. .
The role of Reba is unique because it shows how a female can overcome various obstacles and situations. It shows the different struggles she has to go through. The show would be a lot different if the character of Reba was played by a man, it definitely wouldn't have the same effect. Traditionally in most sitcoms you see the wife, husband, and kids, however "Reba" breaks all the rules. If there is a divorced couple in any sitcom it usually shows how there always fighting and basically hate each other. However, Reba and Brock have a relatively good relationship, sure there are a few occasional sarcastic comments made to each other but nothing they took seriously. Even the Brock's wife Barbara Jean is involved in the show. She and Reba have a talking relationship and even though Reba obviously doesn't care much for her she still manages to help her out when she needed it.
The role of genders is important in "Reba" because Reba crosses barriers. She's a single mother who shares a good relationship with her ex-husband. Reba the female character is shown to describe how a woman can survive raise her kid and be successful without a husband.
             .
If I were to watch "Reba" 500 years from now I"m sure I would have a lot of different thoughts about society now. I would for one assume that its normal for a single mother to still have a good relationship with her ex-husband and his wife. So much that Brock and Barbara Jean visit Reba regularly.
