AIDS in Egypt

             The Crisis.
The AIDS crisis happening in Egypt although right now is not as devastating as in the US, the AIDS crisis is at a very enormous risk of getting much worse in very little time. Most of the people in Egypt do not even know what the AIDS virus is. There is a very small amount of people who are aware of what AIDS is. The group that does know what AIDS is, do not know how to treat AIDS patients. They often express disapproving views of people with AIDS. The people of Egypt sometimes even fear patients infected with the AIDS virus because they think that they can get the AIDS virus just from being around an AIDS patient (http://www.merip.org/mer/mer206/hotline.htm). .
Many times a person who has AIDS is treated terribly by the public. They are many times totally isolated from almost everyone and everything in Egypt. Even the family members of AIDS patients totally isolate their sons, daughters, mothers, and fathers from everyone and everything in their family. Once there was a man who was kicked out of his house by his two brothers because of his infection of AIDS. He was even fired by his job because he has AIDS. The man was depressed because his own family was scared of him. "If I don't have my family behind me then who do I have." (http://www.aegis.com/news). AIDS health officials say that in the mainly-Muslim country that the public and the World Health Organization have made significant progress in breaking the social stigma of the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. But Health Officials say that they still have a long way to go and that progress is definitely being made. .
Another major problem with the AIDS crisis in Egypt is in the statistics. No one really has a solid way of showing exactly how many people have AIDS in Egypt. Many of the citizens in Egypt don't even bother with getting tested for AIDS. Many of the people who do know that they have AIDS found out from going to the hospital after they got sick.
