Prostitution, in definition, refers to having sex with people in exchange for money. This activity, despite being despised and inveighed against due to it's unethical values, it is still prevalent in many present societies. Although prostitution may be deemed as being low-down, it does have it's economical values and benefits to the society, if it may sound preposterous. Due to the pros and cons of prostitution, they give rise to the controversial debate as to whether or not prostitution should be totally eliminated.
In many cultural and religion beliefs, prostitution is seen as an egregious sin as it is being otherwise thought as "selling your own body". This form of disrespect for one's body is socially unacceptable and hence it is felt by many that prostitution should be got rid of. Especially for wives whose husbands have perpetrate such crimes or for parents whose daughters have resorted to such jobs as a mean of earning extra cash, wiping out prostitution will definitely do just to them. .
Prostitution also has one dire repercussion, which is to give rise to sexually transmitted diseases. Even with constant education and reminders by the government to practice safe sex, some clients ignore the consequences of unprotected sex and instead, are willing to pay more to the prostitute to "go without condoms", increasing their chances of contacting such fatal diseases. STD may hence be passed on rapidly to family members of both the prostitutes and the clients, which will severely aggravate the situation. Hence eradicating prostitution can be seen as a mean to control STD.
Socially, soliciting blatantly on the streets is unsightly, when scantily clad women seize any chance to offer themselves to men on the streets. It shows the lack of etiquette and decorum of the people in the country which may bring bad reputation to it as well. This can also become an educational problem when it influences the growth of mentality of children, when they catch sight of such soliciting.
