Sexuality

Welcome to the Inner Workings of My Mind.

When I hear the word sexuality, my mind immediately conjures up images of the human body in all of its naked glory. I think of a person who is completely in touch with what they want, need, and like, a person who is comfortable in the skin they are in. I then progress to the idea of two people, and it is here that I begin to realize the values that I hold when it comes to sexuality. Above all, I believe that anything sexual should honor one's body and increase personal love and acceptance of oneself. Sexuality should increase respect and awareness of the intricate systems at work within the body, and should never degrade or shame. I do believe that it is important to explore one's sexuality, as God made us sexual creatures. I also think that a person should be comfortable with themselves sexually before they venture into a sexual partnership. When someone does decide to explore a mutual sexuality with another person, I believe that it should only happen after the persons involved have gotten to know and love each other in every other sense. Sex is sacred and should only be done with someone that you truly love. I believe that sexuality is not only physical, but emotional and psychological as well. This leads me to the belief that no sex is casual sex. I am against any form or idea of casual sex and I believe that it is an exploitation of a beautiful thing when someone attempts to engage in casual sex. I do believe though, in sex before marriage. If two human beings are in a monogamous, committed, loving relationship then I believe that sexuality can be explored in the way that it is meant to be explored. A piece of paper does not necessarily mean that love is present. My values surrounding sexuality originated in my strong Christian upbringing. My parents constantly reinforced the idea of marriage before sex and they did their best to shield me from anything that glorified the view of casual sex.
