Lord of the Flies

During one of these rituals they use one of the hunters to act out the position of the pig, this seems to get a bit out of control when the boys actually really start to hurt him. But then the performance is concluded with the idea that they use one of the children next time because they want to make the ritual seem more real and by doing that they want to really kill the person who takes on the position of the pig.
One of the first signs of the boys turning against each other occurs when Jack and his hunters decide to go hunting instead of looking after the fire, a ship is seen on the horizon by Ralph and Piggy and by the time they get up to the mountain and realize that there is no fire it is already to late the ship has gone. So when jack and his hunters return Ralph goes mad at Jack for not looking after the fire and when Piggy starts at Jack, he gets mad and hits Piggy in the stomach causing his spectacles to fall and break one of the lens. Jack continues to single out Piggy throughout the book making other boys ridicule and make front of him to. This shows that Jack has already chosen the boys that he will continue to pick on and these boys eventually become the outcasts. Jack seems to develop an inner rage, which is let out later on in the book in a ritual that sees the end of the Christ like figure in the book, Simon. The other boys regard Simon as strange and peculiar but he is brave and compassionate in the attitude of the so-called beast and to the other boys.
As the book progresses Ralph's power and authority seem to diminish and Jack realizes this and starts to reel the boys to his side slowly by offering food and gift to them. There are many signs of the take away of Ralph's authority and power like when he wants a fire going again no one listens to him. During this meeting Ralph also realizes that " things are breaking up-. It is also obvious when Ralph recognizes that when he blows the conch and the boys don't come, it means that he his lost his power to Jack.
