Grading systems

This method is very useful to the teacher, the student, and the parent. A checklist of objectives identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the student in relation to specific learning objectives. Another advantage is that it allows the student to realize what specific areas of the subject he or she needs to focus on. The drawbacks of this system include that the list of objectives must be written to identify the most key skills of each subject area in a precise form and the student, the teacher and the parent must understand the objectives clearly. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages because it is more beneficial to the student in the learning process.
A portfolio of student work would be my third method of reporting student progress. A portfolio is an excellent way to show the improvement of a student's progress in the areas they excel in and the areas in which the student needs to focus more effort. A portfolio also allows the student an opportunity to evaluate his or her owns work and see the improvements they have made over a period of time. One of the best things about a portfolio is that it gives the teacher an example of the student's work to show to the parents in conferences. However, a portfolio is only valid if there is a wide range of the student's work included in the portfolio throughout the grading period. This method of reporting grades seems to be the best method in theory. This is true because it is very beneficial to the student as well as a form of communication between the teacher, the student, and the parent.
Part Two: (Information recorded for each student for one academic subject) 15 points.
             A. Tests- Test grades give summative evaluation of specific skills taught, for example a test on various types of punctuation learned through the grading period. Some types of assignments I would count as a test grade would be a research paper, a book report, or an essay.
