Many of the federal officials of the CGT are members of the French Communist Party. The CGT consists of trade unions and professional local and department unions. Examples of the unions include The General Union of the Engineers, Frameworks and Technicians (UGICT) for engineers and technicians, The Confederate Union of Reprocessed (UCR) for retirement funds and annuity, The National Committee of Fight and Defense allows the employees of the organization to develop a defense system. Air France is a member of CGT. Some positions of the CGT-Air France include the ability to immediately work thirty-five hours without basic wages or compensation decrease and no loss due to an increase of the hours shifted due to Sundays and public holidays. There must be a pay raise of 50% for working Saturdays, 100% for working Sundays and working night hours between 8 pm until 8 am. The French Christian Workers" Confederation that started in 1919 consists of 250,000 members and is strongly represented by private education, the medical professions and social services. Creating stable jobs and maintaining current jobs are the main objectives of CFTC. They also believe that team work and negotiation will help the thirty five hour work schedule move more smoothly. Their use of Christian values can relate to non-believers and people of various religions and wants to be able to defend the members" rights without any external influences. The CFTC consists of local unions, departmental unions, regional unions and federations that make up national trade unions. Local Union CFTC of Manpower France is an example of a local union. Their main beliefs include dignity, respect and equality. Members of the CGT who refused to accept the dominating Communist Party in their union founded the General Confederation of Labor-Workers" Force (CGT-FO) in 1947. It was given the name "trade union independence" as a way for CGT officials and member unions to show opposition towards CGT because of its relations to the Communist Party.
