Living as a woman raised within two completely different cultures, I understand the different roles that women sustain globally within time. Women have changed and adapted their roles due to societal and historical chronically events. Also, survival due to environmental necessities forces women to modify their positions and responsibilities. However, coming from a developing country in East Africa, I am able to view the common similarities and differences to the American ideal persona of a woman's capabilities.
This paper will capture the true identity of an American woman, an Eritrean Woman, and the history that developed up to this point in time. The pros and cons of being an woman and whether it should be judged as a positive or negative trait. Returning back to the main concept of this paper (the quote), being any kind of women is not a shameful demeanour specifically when its related to their different cultural assignments to survive. .
I came from an underdeveloped country located in the eastern horn of Africa, Eritrea. During the thirty-year civil war, both my parents served their time to fight for their country's independence. This was a very critical moment in the production of women's participation in political involvement for their country. For example, many young women that were raised by housewife mothers to become a housewife also chose to sacrifice their lives and plans to join the men in the battlefield for the sake of their country. This is the first time Eritrea women have taken this challenge to represent for their country amongst men, when they were not presumed and trained to. My mother happened to be one of these courageous women to take such a chance. Both my parents met in the war and got married. A couple of years later, my mother was pregnant with me and so my father took her to his family and by that time, they both decided to leave the war and have a family.
