Kingdom Protista

 

All members of Oxymonadida are parasites that live in the intestines of cockroaches and termites.
             Class Parabasalia also live in the intestines of insects and are parasitic or symbiotic. They digest cellulose from the wood that these insects eat, and at some stages of digestion, small particles of wood are visible in their cytoplasm. The two orders of this class are: Trichomonadida and Hypermastigida.
             Phylum Microspora.
             Like the members of Phylum Archaeprotista, members of Microspora also lack mitochondria; they are heterotrophes and they produce a polar filament or thread. It is unknown whether microsporans are sexual or asexual, and some have ribosomes that resemble the ribosomes of prokaryotic cells. Microsporans are also parasitic; they use their polar filament to inject sporoplasm (an infective body) into host cells. Many microsporans cause the formation of single-cell tumors inside their hosts, while some are inconspicuous and do not cause harm to host organisms. .
             Phylum Rhizopoda.
             Members of phylum Rhizopoda are amoebas that have mitochondria and lack undulipodia. Members of this phylum lack flagella and instead used pseudopods for locomotion; they extend their protoplasm and re-form their bodies in the direction in which they wish to move (Anonymous 1998). Members of class Lobosea are microscopic, unicellular amoebas, some with shells called "tests." These organisms reproduce asexually and may be marine or aquatic and are also found in soil. Slime molds, which are members of class Acrasiomycota, are multicellular heterotrophs that may live in fresh water, damp soil, and rotting vegetation; they are considered to be asexual; if sexuality is present, it is quite rare. These organisms aggregate into a slimy mass that forms spores.
             Phylum Granuloreticulosa.
             Members of phylum Granuloreticulosa have reticulopods, "cells that fuse to form networks in which bidirectional streaming can be seen;" this phylum is divided into classes Reticulomyxida and Foraminifera.
