Coloinal period

The Colonial Period was a major part in U. It was the arrival of the Puritans to scared Native American grounds. It was a time of friendship, betrayal, and heartbreak. Many stories were told during this time period. Some stories portraying the Puritans as helpful servants of God, and others stories of bloodshed and treachery. Many of the stories have contradicting viewpoints in which I will be discussing.
In the story " Origins of Stories" there is a man named Gaqka. He is an Indian boy who his not liked by any of his village people. He is laughed at and named filth-Covered-One. Gaqka finds a canoe that he has never seen before. He gets inside of the canoe and it soars through the air. The canoe leads him to a cliff. Gaqka soon finds out that the cliff talks. Not only does it talk it tells him stories in return for tobacco. Gaqka soon became a skilled hunter and a fine looking man. He returns to his village with a wife and his stories. He was loved by many and was view as the best man in the village. This story shows that a man must change in order to be liked. Just like the Indians had to change their whole why of life. When the Puritans came to "Civilize" the Indians they viewed then as being uncivil because they were different for the Puritans. So in order for the Indians to be liked they had to change to the way they have lived for hundreds of years. Just like this story tells that if you are not liked as a person that you must change to be liked. It is the same now. If a certain group does not like you, you will change to be more like them to get their approval.
In the writings of John Winthrop who was a Puritan idealist, .
"Envisioned a " City of God" as the Utopian foundation for the new society that he and his fellow Puritans would be building, and he fully expected that the hardships they would face in the wilderness would test the sainthood.".
He thought that the Puritans had to come to the New Land and settle to convert all people because it was their duty.
