Compairasin between The Open Boat and To Build A Fire

The Open Boat and To Build a Fire are two naturalistic stories that are very different yet very similar in many ways.
In both of thee short stories the the author portays man against nature. In To Build A Fire man has to fight with nature in order to surviv. For example every time it seems like the man has successfuly built a fire, nature destroys the fire due to its cold weather. It even seems like the dog sees and follows the danger signs that nature gives, while the man dosent't. The dog, without thinkning, knows the cold is dangerous, knows the spring is risky, bites the ice off from in between his feet to help prevent frost bite, and knows not to get to close to the fire. In this story nature prevails over the man, because the man later dies.
In The Open Boat man is also fighting against nature. The boat is hit wiht storms and the four men on the boat go through a lot of trials and tribulations due to the bad weather that nature throws out on the boat.
The difference in these tow stories is that because of the companionship of the four men in The Open Boat, even though the Oiler dies, they defeat nature. ON the other hand, in To Build A Fire, due to his stubbern will to try to fight nature by himself the man dies and is defeated by nature.
