In The Village Bride painting the composition is made up of many people, who are observing a wedding. Unlike the Angelica Kauffmann painting it is harder to understand who all the people in the painting are and it is much more complex. The fiancé in the middle is handing money over to a man with his arms stretched out as if to welcome the fiancé into the family. The family is probably a peasant family because of the surrounding in which they are located, and the clothing, which they are wearing. This scene seems more chaotic with all the characters in the painting looking different directions and some sitting while others are standing and slouching. The figures are not frozen, but seem more lifelike and when looking at this painting the viewer feels like he/she could be part of the scene. This is also a scene displaying family values, and the basic roles of women during this time. In this painting the composition is much more complex, and creates the chaos and grim atmosphere that the artist is trying to display. .
The painting by Angelica Kauffmann uses many peaceful colors to help show the simplicity and calmness of the painting. The mother is dressed in white and gold, which attracts the viewer's attention. White usually means pure and good and gold could show wealth or status. The background is dim so that the figures in the front stand out more, and the children are in a much better light than the jewels to symbolize their importance over material things. The visitor sitting down also attracts the viewer's attention because she is wearing bright red. Even though one of the sons is also wearing red it does not attract the viewers attention because the son is not in the light and is covered by a shadow. The difference in colors makes both women stand out in the picture but also clearly shows their difference of opinions and values. The daughter in the middle of the painting is wearing pink as if to show the sides of both women since red and white combined make pink.
