Each year, in excess of 300,000 people die due to obesity affecting nearly 60 million Americans nationwide and today, it's the second leading cause of unnecessary deaths. In fact, the healthcare cost for American adults alone is $100 billion, so the next time you think about eating that chili dog or Big Mac think again because it could be your last. The public better step up on this dramatic problem that effects the lives of everyone, teaching children and youth the core ideas on why they need to eat healthy and stay in shape.
If you've ever gone to the gym and "actually" worked out, then you know what it feels like to try and burn calories. Losing weight for most is a true challenge, in fact many feel that the spark or motivation just isn't there and for others, going to the gym is their lives/daily routine, everyday they go to the gym to exercise for almost two hours and burn a ton of calories in just 30 minutes. But exercise is just one of the key players in the fight against obesity, eating a healthy well-balanced diet is the next step.
Obesity is an excess of body fat frequently resulting in a significant impairment of health. Obesity results when the size or number of fat cells in a person's body increases. A normal-sized person has between 30 and 35 billion fat cells. When a person gains weight, these fat cells first increase in size and later in number. Obesity can be linked to the lack of physical activity and high calorie diets.
More than ever, obesity has become an issue amongst the youth, the cycle of shame and weight gain begins at an early age due to the teasing of "fat kid" in the class. And sadly, some children mainly as adolescents is to deal with their problem by committing suicide. Others grow up to join the people who end up fighting it all their lives and as the stereotype goes: "fat people raise fat kids" and "fat kids become fat adults."(NCERx, Effects of Obesity) If not dealt with immediately, obesity can become a serious health hazard to one's life.
