General Analysis of Feedback types.
Providing an effective feedback is an essential part of management, which is often underestimated by many managers. Managers often do not realize that giving an effective feedback can greatly improve employee's motivation and performance. A generally known theory on feedback gives an idea on how an effective feedback should look like and what goals it should fulfill. According to the article "Leadership empowerment and development" there are five general characteristics an effective feedback should follow. The first is "usability" (2003), referring to the principle that information is gathered only from those that are particularly important and relevant to the feedback topic. Further, they must have an effect on the issue. Secondly, the feedback must be specifically concentrated on a certain behavior, problem or matter. A feedback should also be "descriptive" (2003), ensuring a clear view of the situation to all participants. By no means is it supposed to give an idea whether a certain judgment is right, wrong, positive or negative. Another essential characteristic is the "time factor" (2003). It is appropriate to give feedback in a hasty manner right after an issue in order to increase the usefulness and potential effectiveness of the following actions.
