" .
"Most say serial killers don't learn from mistakes in their previous killings but I believe," criminology at Radford University and a former police officer, "they try to improve on their previous effort. You know how the more you do something, the better you get at it? Well there comes a point where you peak and you can only go down. With serial killers, a greed factor will set in where they'll get away with it the easier it will be. And that's when they get sloppy and get caught.".
There are five different types of serial killers. A person can fall under any type, or any combination of types. It just depends on their motivation. Is it the thrill of the hunt, the killer on a mission to save society, someone who likes to toy with his or her victims? Quite possibly it could be a person who honestly hears voices telling them to kill, or who does it for sexual gratification. Whatever the motivations may be these are very dangerous people and each has a "valid" reason in their mind for the crimes they have committed.
The first type is the thrill seeker. They see killings and the police pursuit as a game. They thrive on the media attention. Also the fact that they are evading the authorities is yet another reason they are considered to be thrill seekers. The bottom line with this type a killer is it is all about the thrill of the game.
"Your likely to see these kind of killers send a message with their killing. They tend to keep a record of their killings. It would not surprise me to see these guy keep [newspaper] clippings of their murders. They enjoy one-upmanship, get joy from foiling the efforts of the police," said Burke.
Yet another type is the mission-orientated serial killer. They believe they do society a favor by getting rid of people. For example, the feel killing a prostitute makes a statement against infidelity. In their minds these killings are valid because they make a statement against the complete ideal of prostitution.
