Friendship: George and Lennie

A friend is a person who is always there for you when you need them. There are a few characteristics that make people good friends. In my opinion, the ideal friend has the qualities of trustworthiness, understanding, and companionship. .
To me, trustworthiness is being able to tell your friend whatever you are feeling and know at the same time, that they are going to keep your secrets. I think that George has the quality of trustworthiness in his and Lennie's friendship. Lennie told George everything he was feeling and thinking and never thought twice about it. He told George when he was scared, happy, sad, or ashamed and truly trusted him with his feelings. .
In my mind, the characteristic of understanding can be defined as being able to see the other person's side of the story, not being judgmental, and knowing why the other person feels what he feels. I think that again, George has this quality. He is very understanding of Lennie throughout the novel, and he shows it at the end. George wouldn't have killed Lennie if he didn't know what Lennie was feeling and thinking when he killed Curley's wife. He knew that it was an accident and definitely showcased his understanding quality, "No, Lennie. I ain't mad. I never been mad, an" I ain't now. That's a thing I want ya to know." .
Companionship is forming a bond and spending time together. In George and Lennie's relationship, both of them exhibit companionship. All they have is each other, and all of their time is spent together. George said, "I got you an" you got me." The friendship that they have is everything that companionship is. They have a very special bond that couldn't even be broken by his death. .
