To Kill A Mockingbird

Maycomb was a very tired and slow moving town. For example: "people ambled across the square, shuffled in and out of the stores around it, took, took their time on everything" (pg. 10. This shows that they had a lot of time on their hands. This also proves that because they went into all the stores. There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go, nothing to buy, and no money to buy it with, nothing to see outside of Maycomb County. This shows that because they had no money to buy things with. This also shows Maycomb was in the middle of nowhere, and there was nothing to do there. That's why Maycomb was slow.
There had been violence in Maycomb over the years. For example: the town was terrorized by a series of morbid nocturnal events. "People's chickens and household pets were found mutilized; although the culprit was Crazy Addie (pg. 13)". This shows that he terrorized people. This also shows that because he caused violence in Maycomb. Another example is: "Accordoing to neighborhood legend, when the younger Radley boy was in his teens he became acquainted with some of the Cunninghams from Old Sarum, and enormous, and confusing tribe domiciled in the northern part of the county, and they formed the nearest thing to a gang ever seen in Maycomb (pg. 14)." This shows that there had been violence. This also shows that there wasen't much violence in Maycomb before this incident. Even though there wasen't a lot of violence in Maycomb, there must have been bad things that happened, because two people were hung. .
