It's safe to say I"ll never forget my trip to Club Dust in Mexico. It was on this adventure I "bought" a door for the Ramada Inn - Hollywood, and later in the week earned the distinctive recognition of being honored as one of the "Bano Brothers", an achievement almost as prestigious as being John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd in the Blues Brothers. The stories are intricately tied to one another; and led to me discovering something about myself I didn't realize was there.
.
Let me explain my ownership of the door. It all happened because of some innocent, good natured teenage antics. I got locked out on the porch of my room while my buddy Zach and I were goofing around. He locked me out and it wasn't the first time either, I wasn't in a good mood that morning and as he was inside the room laughing at me I banged on the glass door not realizing my own strength and I broke it. At that moment I knew that I would have to pay for the door. My friend and I then went to explain to the supervisor on the trip what had happened. He told me that I had to inform the front desk about what happened and have them send me a bill to the room later on that day. My supervisor wasn't extremely happy with what had happened and sat us down to have a harmless chat with us about responsibility. Little did he know that by the end of the trip his whole perception about me would change from a complete negative to an extremely good positive. .
When we first arrived at the build site, we realized there was a lot to get done within 3 days. My supervisor knew before the trip that I was very knowledgeable about construction and interested in becoming an engineer. Knowing this, he assigned one of my friends and I to build the bathroom or in Spanish known as the bano. My friend Brett and I were always very passionate about building forts and things in the woods behind my house and so we were very excited when he gave us the opportunity to build the bathroom by ourselves.
