She was raised to be against abortions and so she couldn't bring herself to do that. The first and only person she told for a while was her "boyfriend." At first he was okay with it and said he would help and be there for her, so she began to feel good and secure about it. Not too long after, he began to ignore her and she started seeing him around with other girls. She had no choice but to go to her mother about it. Her mother was disappointed in her and explained to her this was going to be a burden on the family because obviously the daughter cant afford a baby and now the mom is going to have to help her and she cant afford this. Her mother felt like it was her fault, she felt through the divorce and the family issues her daughter might have felt neglected and turned to the comfort of a guy. Skipping ahead, during the beginning of her pregnancy she remained in school, until she began to show. Then she went into a program for teen mothers to continue her education. Her mother had to make some sacrifices to help out. In the end not only was she sixteen with a baby but a single mother as well which touches on another social problem. Her pregnancy not only affected her, but her family as well. .
             The social problem focused on in the film is, teenage pregnancy. It is considered a social problem because, when teenagers are having babies, it affects not only themselves but society as a whole. They may not be able to continue their education, so they may have to turn to welfare. Which is money from the government but, the government gets the money from the tax payers. Some teenagers may be so overwhelmed by having a baby in their lives that they now need to care & attend to 24/7. Having a baby is a very stressful time for anyone and more so when you"re a teen. They may feel so stressed and overwhelmed that they abandon the baby or kill it "accidentally." (SBS - Shaken Baby Syndrome is the third highest cause for infant deaths in the U.
