The United States Education System - It's Drawbacks.
I believe the time has finally come where it is MY TURN to tell the world about a diligent student who is being held back by the United States Education System. This is a reflection of my personal experience throughout my life and I would enjoy sharing them with you. .
I had worked my way up to becoming the top of my class. This was no easy road to venture upon either because I had gotten lyme disease when I was at a mere age of three. This had put my mental status to only one of a child that is a year old and as a result I had been placed in special education. I had worked as hard as I could with a private tutor on our low budget, my mother and the person that had put the most impact on my life - my first grade teacher. She had worked with me one on one and through hard work and dedication, on both of our parts, I had not only risen to the normal education level of a first grader, but I was ahead of most of my peers and no longer in the special education program. By the end of that year, I had received an award for the most improved student in our elementary school.
As my education continued, I kept up my studious life. I had taken the hardest courses available for me to take at that time and have done so since then. When I had reached the tenth grade, the admissions department of the local college had told me that I should drop out, get my GED and begin college. This had intrigued me because I, personally, did not think that I was a "good enough student able for that type of education plan" although many had faith in me doing this. I did believe that I could handle the course load, but never had thought of myself as a student to stand out and have others see my academic performance. .
Although I understand the need for special education, I believe that it should turn the other way also. Students who perform with these abilities should have the opportunity for programs to excel them further and push them to their full ability.
