In the news story written in Piper, Kansas, high school teacher Christine Pelton failed 28 sophomores for plagiarizing their semester projects from the internet. After the sophomores parents complained to the Piper School Board, the school board ordered Pelton to go easier on the guilty students, which caused Pelton to resign due to the lack of integrity in the school system. .
The truth is, is that situations showing the lack of integrity in Western society today occur everyday. For instance, on January 5th, 2004, sports legend Pete Rose admitted that he bet not only on baseball in 1987 and 1988, but also on his team. After reports emerges in 1989 that Rose was gambling on baseball, and six months of investigation by the Major League Baseball officials, Rose decided to leave baseball for life without saying if the reports were true or not. I believe that the MLB officials should not have given Pete Rose the option of not having to admit or deny whether he bet on baseball if he agreed to leave baseball forever. The truth finally came out, though it took 15 years for it to do so. The public should have known about Pete Rose's scandal as soon as the investigation started instead of having to wait 15 years for the truth. I believe the only reason Pete Rose decided to come clean with the public is so that he could be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame, which he should not be eligible for just because he told the truth about betting on baseball; so what if he broke Ty Cobb's record for most hits ever? Did Ty Cobb ever bet on sports?.
Western civilization as we know it is doomed by its declining rate of integrity though out society and even though there are people like Christine Pelton who have identified and will no longer take the injustice, there are many more types of people represented by organizations like the MLB.
