Ever since I was little, I really wasn't aware of the impact of prejudice in society.
think prejudice was wrong and feel bad that people were treated so unfairly. Now.
that I am older, I am beginning to understand the meaning of Martin Luther King day. Dr. .
Martin Luther King believed people should be treated equally no matter what color their .
skin was. I was saddened by the continued mistreatment of human beings who were not .
part of the "white" majority. Dr. King changed the attitudes of many thus making my .
world a much friendlier place.
Dr. Martin Luther King was a very eloquent black Baptist minister. He became a .
prominent leader for the Civil Rights Movement. Most of his work was done during the .
50's and 60's. He lived in Alabama and instituted a boycott against segregation on buses. .
Black passengers refused to ride the bus for382 days. The ultimate success of this boycott .
made him a national hero. It reflected his belief in which a non violent protest could .
attain a clear victory.
Sometimes I can relate to the feelings Dr. King expressed. I sometimes overhear .
people gossiping about others in a destructive way. They seem to think they are better .
than their peers in many ways. This is totally unfair and seems similar to prejudice. I .
want to stop people from being this way because I believe nobody is better than anyone .
else. We are all created equal and I will strive to support this belief throughout my life.
I don't know anyone who experienced prejudice but can compare it to personal .
experiences in school which remind me of it. There are many times in which I feel I am .
judged unfairly by my friends. I have been called names which have really hurt my .
feelings and have been criticized for my appearance. I can't begin to imagine how .
difficult it was for the minorities in our country in the 50's and 60's but still feel we are .
not living the implications of Dr. Kings dream. The struggle we live daily is within .
