When girls think about having sex, they don't think about the consequences that go along with it. What if you get pregnant unintentionally? What will happen if you don't use protection? What if you are unable to physically, emotionally, mentally, or financially care for the baby? Abortion is a big controversial subject to talk about these days. The sad thing about abortion is that most people believe that it's ok to kill an innocent baby.
The people who think that it's ok to have an abortion are those who never intended to get pregnant, who don't want a child, or who are too young to care for a child. Now I can understand when a woman gets raped and gets pregnant, she doesn't want the result of her rape to be something that she has to live with the rest of her life. Give the baby up for adoption. I can also understand when a girl is too young or when the woman is unable to financially, physically, emotionally, or mentally care for the child, but there are other options to choose from. One option is to give the baby up for adoption. A lot of people, who aren't ready for a baby, give it up for adoption. The other option is to not have sex. Having sex is a big responsibility that comes with many consequences, like getting pregnant, that most women don't ever think about.
In 1990, there were about 1,000,000 pregnancies among American women aged 15-19. About 84% of teen pregnancies are unintentional. The United States has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the western world. About 21% of all abortions are performed on women 19 years old and younger. In 1989, 49% of teenage pregnancies end in a birth, 14% end in a miscarriage, and 37% end in abortions. Of the teens who have abortions, 3 out of 4 say they can't afford to have a baby and 1 out of 4 say they aren't mature enough for one. Out of 6,355,000 pregnancies, 54% are unintended and 46 % are intended. Of the 3,410,000 unintended pregnancies, 47% end in abortion, 40% end in birth, and the remaining 13% end in miscarriages.
